The one with the... Living Room Layout

When we were almost done with the built in bookcase, we started looking for furniture and decor to put in the living room.  We knew we wanted a sectional couch in the living room to seat lots of people.  Since Dave leaves most of the picking out of wall colors, decor, and furniture to me and I have an online window shopping addiction, I started looking at possible sectionals and coffee tables that would fit into the space.  However, there was another large piece of "furniture" that we had to account for in the living room.  
It has always been a dream of mine to have a baby grand piano in my house! I grew up with a regular upright piano and was always jealous of people who had baby grands.  Dave had two baby grand pianos in their house (his mom is a piano teacher)!  So when I mentioned my dream to have a baby grand piano in the living room, Dave thankfully agreed!


With plans for a sectional, coffee table, and a baby grand piano for the living room, we knew that there was the potential for the room to get very crowded very fast.  Plus there are different sized baby grands so we had to determine the largest size that we could get. (Usually the larger the baby grand, the better the sound).

Thanks to Dave's awesome Google Sketchup skillz, he used the saved file from the bookcase design to draw out the entire living room.  I gave Dave the dimensions of the sectional and coffee table I wanted, and he played with the layout to come up with two options.

It was pretty obvious when we laid it out like this that Option 2 was by far the better option. It allows for better flow in the room, and the back of the sectional isn't blocking the two doorways!  Once we knew that the pieces we wanted would actually fit in the living room, we ordered a sectional and coffee table from Macy's and went piano shopping!  By Christmas, we had everything in place!  The piano was our Christmas present to each other.
