The one with the...Kitchen Makeover (Part 5 - KitchenAid Mixer Stand)

In Part 1 of the kitchen makeover, we mentioned that we got rid of the trash compactor and we planned to replace it with a regular base cabinet and install the mixer stand.  And in Part 3, we described how the new base cabinet led us to painting and transforming all our cabinets. 

When we tried sliding it into the cavity where the trash compactor once lived we found ourselves with a little problem... 

The cabinet was too tall because there was hardwood floor under the trash compactor.   

Dave took out all the boards-- the hardwood floors are 5/8 inch thick!  

Even with the hardwood floor taken out underneath, the cabinet was still a little too tall due to the hardwood floor that is right in front of the cabinet.  It's hard to explain without a picture and unfortunately we forgot to take one during this process.  Dave ended up having to cut down the cabinet little by little until it fit under the counter.  Here it is all painted and with an opening for the power outlet: 

Now onto the Rev-A-Shelf Heavy Duty Mixer Lift!  We ordered the hardware online and Dave had the fun job of installing it. This what it came with: 

The cabinet turned out to be a little small for the Rev-A-Shelf hardware, but thanks to Dave's ingeniousness he got it to work!  He had to cut three pieces of plywood for the job: two side supports (shown immediately below), and a piece for the mixer shelf that would attach to the Rev-A-Shelf hardware.      

 The KitchenAid mixer is in its new home!! See how the mixer (just barely) sits on the plywood?  The shelf also sits just high enough so that there is space below for attachments.

And when you pull up the shelf it clicks into place so it can't fall and the mixer it's ready for use!  Just plug it in and mix away!  

Isn't that the coolest kitchen gadget you've ever seen??  Ever since I saw it on an HGTV show, I've been dreaming of having one in my kitchen...and now we have one!
