When it Rains it Pours!

It's been a while since our last post...and that's because we've been busy fixing things and working on projects!  A few weeks ago our dishwasher broke.  A few days after that, our water heater pilot light wouldn't stay on, which meant no hot water for a week! Then this past week, we had a pretty bad rain and wind storm one night. Dave said it sounded like someone was banging on the side of the house all night long (Julia, of course, slept through the storm like a baby).  The storm blew down part of our fence, which was pretty old and starting to rot.  We were planning to wait until next Spring to get the whole fence replaced, but with a dog who loves running around in the backyard, we needed to get this section of the fence fixed ASAP.

So bright and early Saturday morning (we slept in until 7:30am!) we went to our local lumber store and picked up (almost) everything we needed for this project.  We are lucky to have people to borrow tools from nearby. Most of the tools we borrowed from Dave's Dad.  We had also borrowed a chainsaw from our back neighbors, but when that chainsaw failed to start, one of our other neighbors came over and offered up his chainsaw.  Apparently he had watched Dave try to start the other chainsaw for a while.  It's nice to live in a community with friendly neighbors!

Dave worked most of the day on Saturday and about half day Sunday to get this done.  Total cost for materials came out to be about $300, and the labor was free!

WOW...this is really good! See what a little hardwork can do. It was tough when we put our fence up, but when it's all done it feels good. Just stand back and say, "hey I did this and I saved tons of $$$."

Keep it up!

Thanks! Saving $$ feels almost better than knowing you did it yourself, especially in this economy. Cheers!
